Swagger Bagger

The Renaissance Festival was great! It was super fun to hang out with my writer buds and make some new friends as well.

This evening I am about to go talk to a graduate class about careers that you can pursue with a master's degree in English. My author buddies gave me a bunch of swag to hand out to the students, so I packed it all up, and I'm taking it with me! One of my favorite things to do is talk to people who want to do what I do. I love to encourage and help and offer advice. I certainly don't know it all, but I know a lot more than I did five years ago, that's for sure. I've had some amazing mentors (looking at you, John Hartness) who've taught me so much about the publishing industry, and I love to pass that knowledge on down to others.

So, here's to grad school and mentors and publishing fun!

Cold Weather!

The Renaissance Festvial is tomorrow!
It looks like it will be clear and cold.
(For the South, anyway.) At least there’s no sign of rain!

I got a text from Bestie Leann earlier today talking about wearing her super awesome Dobby ear hat because it was going to be cold. So, I got to thinking about what I was going to wear...

Then I realized that I did not own a single long-sleeved shirt. So, after an unexpected trip to the store, I now have gloves, two long-sleeved shirts, and a hoodie-type jacket. I think I’m set!

See y’all tomorrow!

Guardians of Eternity

I’m not doing NaNoWriMo this year because, frankly, I’m kind of busy. I’m teaching a full load of college classes, editing (both for my own company, Clicking Keys, and for Falstaff Books), and tutoring...

All that on top of writing. But I am writing.

I’m working on a series of four novellas that will be coming, starting in 2018, from Falstaff Books. They’re Shadow Council Archives, stories set in the world of John Hartness’s award-winning Quincy Harker series.

My series is called Guardians of Eternity and features Judas Iscaroit and Mary Magdalene as the main protagonists, immortal secret keepers, and time travelers. I like to think of the stories a bit like Warehouse 13 with a dash of Doctor Who and a whole lot of demons.

Look for the first one to be coming in early 2018!

Charlotte Authors and Artists Fair

Ditch the leftover turkey and come out to support some local authors on Small Business Saturday!

The event is hosted by John Hartness of Falstaff Books, with location provided by Theatre Charlotte.

Shop small, shop local. We are sure to have something for just about everyone on your list.

AtomaCon

November 17-19, 2017, I will be hanging around with a slew of other amazing people as a guest at AtomaCon in Charleston, SC!

The full schedule can be found here, but I will type out my own personal schedule nice and pretty for y'all. Come see me, will you?

If you can't make it to the panels, I will have a table that I am sharing with my adorable hubby, Jason Gilbert, and one of my best friends in the world, Leann Rettell. Come say hello and touch the books! They don't bite. Much.

Here's my schedule!

Saturday
11:30 am - Short Story Writing Workshop
4:00 pm - Open Pitch: Falstaff Books
8:00 pm - Writing for an Anthology, Series, or Shared Universe
9:00 pm - Falstaff Books Mixer (Embassy Suites Bar)

Sunday
12:00 pm - Tools of the Trade: What Every Writer Should Have in their Arsenal

Time Traveling and Selling Books!

2017 is my first year participating in the annual Time Travelers’ Weekend event at the Carolina Renaissance Festival, sponsored by the awesome Park Road Books in Charlotte, NC!

I’ll have copies of Shadown in Salem from FunDead Publications and Triumphant from Lore Seekers Press.

Come on out and enjoy a turkey leg, look at some books, and hang out with all of us fantastic people!
